New York City: Brooklyn Greenpoint: Neighbourhood
on our trip to New York City in April '05 we had the great opportunity to stay
in the neighbourhood of 'Brooklyn Greenpoint' - a nice, comfy, and rather calm'n'quiet neighbourhood
- at least if you either try to compare it with some of New York's other neighbourhoods - or
with the stories from Brooklyn's history, that people might be willing to tell
you if you sit down and talk in one of
these nice neighbourhood cafés and/or bars ...

People will tell you anyways that only a few years ago this area used to be a
completely different story. And somehow you can almost hear the echo of this other
story.
This part of Brooklyn has a quite high percentage of "polish people"
living and working here - it is also refered to beeing "the Polish Neighbourhood"
of New York City / Brooklyn. At least you will find quite a variety of eastern
european, especially polish products in the shops located on and around Manhattan
Avenue, sausages (butchers' shops), deli-shops, hidden second hand shops and much
more.
The pictures were not taken on Manhattan Avenue, which one of
the "shopping streets" of Greenpoint, but mostly in the backstreets
of Manhattan Avenue - and around. Of course I can't cover all of "The Point"
with just one set of pictures - for
further information and more pictures etc. this might be a rather good starting
point: www.greenpt.com

the 'skyline' of Brooklyn / Greenpoint is probably not as well known as the manhattan
skyline but nonetheless very interesting - and shurely much more comfortable to
sit on..:)

Manhattans skyline is almost always somehow 'lurking' from behind Brooklyn's Skyline..

cats'n'pope'n'rock'n'roll.. Greenpoint is also known for its 'polish neighbourhood'
- so when the pope died shortly before our NYC-trip, people decorated their houses,
attached black ribbons to the flags and sometimes looked sadly out of the kitchen
window - just like this neighbour's cat..
