Pace means Peace
when we were in Venice in Summer 2003, the streets and alleys were still very much
decorated by the rainbow colored PACE-Flags. Pace, of cause, means Peace.
The flags were probably originally used in the large demonstrations against the so called Iraq-War.
These flags were literally everywhere, you could see them even on Piazza San Marco.
I was actually quite surprised by this "decoration", since i originally expected
a "clean" and "polished" tourists' wonderland - but not peace-activists. But in the
end it does make very much sense to me, since the island is also heavily visited by
tourists, that could actually bring the Peace-Message back home...
