In January 2006 time was running out - now 'they' really want to tear the 'Palace of the Republic' (Palast der Republik) down - and then rebuild the old castle(!) - although there are enough good reasons against this.

Maybe some international protest would work in the end..? We'll see..
Already yesterday the New York Times wrote: "In this regard, the government's support for a kitschy castle should be viewed as the worst kind of architectural crime: an act of cultural parricide that rules out the possibility of redemption."
