What a winter! Snow and snow and coldness kept us in suspense for weeks - about now most of the people probably have seen enough of this 'winter wonderland'. At the end of february finally temperatures are above 0°C, snow and ice begin to melt - and slowly but surely all those things come back to the surface, that got stuck in the layers of snow and ice over the past weeks.
Of course first it was just a great fun. Ususally Berlin just has some more or less frozen/wet grey stuff to offer. Well - actually sometimes we do habe some snow. At least kids call it snow, whenever it's good enouth for some sledge riding activities.
But this year probably even the most ambitious kids just might have seen enough snow for this season. If it just only was proper snow! After several days above 0°C and several nights below 0°C Berlin's sidewalks and side streets got sealed by a white/grey mass, formerly known as 'snow'. And that's not even serious problems - various islands in the Baltic Sea and villages across North of Germany were cut off for several days - and even some Autobahns had to be closed because there was partly no way of freeing them from snow.
