...quite an interesting walk...
the greatest hits f architecture of the sixties, seventies and nineties can
be found on the south end - close to the U-Bahn station "Hallesches Tor".
Appartments, sponsored by the office of social affairs (=social-appartments??
correct?? i dont know!), higher than the rest of the neighbourhood, satelite
dishes everywhere.
Then, further north, there is the former Checkpoint Charlie - where also Russians
and Americans met quite sceptical about eachother... Nowadays it is a popular
site for tourists.
North of the Checkpoint you kind find "the new Mitte" ... hm hmm hmmm...
or maybe "the new Mitte" is rather situated close to the "Hackescher
Markt" - and this is something completely different. Who really cares...
At least you can find some architectural masterpieces of the nineties... and
the usual Frenchize-Boutiques (i do not care wether this is spelled correctly!).
This area continues north, up to the S-Bahn station "Friedrichstrasse".
Further north one can find architectural classics of the former East - like
the Friedrichstadtpallast.
