Berlin: the very new Central train Station a.k.a. Hauptbahnhof
formerly a.k.a. 'Lehrter Stadtbahnhof' - nowadays a very central train station:
already the 'official' name "Central Station - Lehrter Bahnhof" might
suggest, that this is definately not one of the most uncomplicated train stations
/ construction sites / projects Berlin has to offer. And also the ongoing discussions
about this new 'very' central train station is quite diverse: not everyone likes
the "Glass-Sausage", others miss the almost legendary old S-Bahn station
'Lehrter Stadtbahnhof', others even fear that West-Berlins legendary train station
"Zoo" and the area around it will loose attractivity, if the ICE-Train
stopps stopping there ...
We'll see. If Berlin needs a 'Grand Central Station' of this size (Europe's largest!)
at all, or if the size of this new 'Crossing Railway Station' (North-South- and
East-West-track are meeting here) is over proportionate anyways and will become
another financial desaster for the City of Berlin anyways is not known yet - and
we'll probably only find out in a couple of years.
The new "mega-station" isn't ready yet anyways - but I somehow thought
now would be the right moment to finally upload some first pictures of the construction
site.. - ..aaand more pix will of course follow as soon as possible.. - ..when
I finally cleaned up my archives and/or took even more..:]
..and here's again some selected pictures of this album..:

Just shortly some details about the history / name-salad of the station: originally
the train station, that used to be here, was called 'Lehrter Bahnhof', because
the trains that left from here went to the town called 'Lehrte'. Later an S-Bahn-station
was built right next to that train station - and was also called 'Lehrter Bahnhof'.
Even later, both stations were re-named to 'Lehrter Stadtbahnhof' which means
someting like 'Lehrte City-Station'. In the fifties the original train station
was then closed and torn down - only the S-Bahn-station 'Lehrter Stadtbahnhof'
was left behind.
